now that i think about it, i complain about valorant a lot. should i really be sinking so many hours into a game where my enjoyment can utterly be ruined by the RNG placement of the 3-4 other chucklefucks on my team? all it takes it one bad abbles to spoil the bunch as they say.
Perhaps I should game with something that is single-player, as I used to do before I got back into valorant. The trouble is I enjoy valorant when it's good, but it's like I'm just chasing the same high, I can play for 4-5 days before I get a legitimately close game, with a good team, where I perform pretty well and think I contributed to our victory at key points. Is it worth, what, 20 hours of playtime to get ONE good game? Where the others are full of toxic assholes, women that join comp but keep their voice chat off so you can't communicate, the french, crappy players and of course, the dreaded lag demons?

The reason why I play deadlock is partly because of mental. I feel good at deadlock, whilst yes, there are better champs for what she does, I am used to her kit and think I generally get decent use out of it. Whilst there are areas to improve, such as adjusting barrier placements slightly to make it harder for the enemy to shoot it from safety, such worries aren't my major concern as it feels very advanced for the level I play at, like it won't make much of a difference in my lobbies because most of the time I throw down a barrier, it just stops a push or confuses them for several long seconds before they decide and remember they can shoot it. It's like watching Radiant tier players for advice on how to play the game, but they aren't playing in the trench, they're playing in a game where people are smart and dare I say.. predictable.
I used to play a lot of Sage, and I stopped playing her because the healer role is just dull. Welp, I can't do anything, I'm reliant on my team entering first, being the first to contest anything, so I can sit back in the cuck cage and heal their boo boos when they get hurty. When playing Deadlock, especially on defence, I play a lot more aggressive, and it has made me better at aiming and fighting people instead of just being the "wall and heal" character that got me to gold 1 originally.

Take an omen on ascent for example, he could throw a flash through the wall from orb to tree to give his team a chance to enter, but he must also think "are they actually going to follow up off of the flash?" or "do I think people are holding there?", or like that one three bomb map set in china or something with garage, as raze I could throw my grenade as soon as I get to long into the little hidey place left of the back of the site every round after I saw their sniper hiding there but I can also think "is he actually going to be there or is it going to just be a waste of a nade to clear an angle I could clear other ways?" and then hold grenade until I either see him or throw it elsewhere
I have that exact issue with raze satchels, I just think "i am the duelist I need to enter site Im going to satchel jump fast and then figure it out later" rather than think "Ok if I jump now, can I get to a place of cover? Will team follow up? Where should I be looking to be prepared for enemies?" stuff like that takes a split second to think about but unless you actively make it a habit then you dont think about it. I think the ability I don't think about most of all is the grenade. I like to think I'm using it for a reason but all too often I'm just throwing it at an angle nobody is at, and realistically, nobody will be at. 200 credits to sorta-maybe-badly check if anyone is there isn't great. It works, kinda well with raze grenades, but it's not perfect. I think the best use I get out of it is when I'm in a 1v1 situation and I know where the enemy is, locking down their location for a couple of seconds gives plenty of time to reposition, or get a plant off, or something like that. Insstead of just throwing it because I have it, and so I never really buy it unless I'm stacked on creds because I don't think I get good use out of it, so I'm losing out on part of her kit because I don't think about what to do with it well.
Sonic Sensors are a hit or miss, on defence I'm very reliant on them, but on attack it's less useful, or at least, only useful in post-plants, and even then I don't think they're as effective as defence, y'know

thats a scenario where oyu have either consciously or subconsciously considered if your grenade would be good, came to the conclusion that it would and then thrown it instead of just thrown it out on the off chance that it mightve been useful
sure, you can argue that a 10% chance of being good is better than a 0% chance (due to not using it at all) but you also have the option to not throw it and then use it in a better scenario with a higher % chance, which is what im trying to offer as an option
now im going to give you a purely hypothetical, totally not real example, and illustrate how a "second opinion" (doctor talk) could benefit ability usage
imagine youre playing lotus, youre defence and the enemy team planted on A pretty close to the opening of the site, its like 3v2 or something (so decently advantageous for your team)
you could throw the wall into the opening and block off enemiesbut they dont need to push you since its planted open and it limits your team from potentially pushing forward and taking fights meaning the enemies have to focus on the attackers or duck into cover, allowing for a defuseor you could give it a second thought and come up with a potential other solution, like throwing it off of a wall and trying to bounce it towards the stairs to CT meaning that person cant push out and peek an angle that shows bomb/defuser or potentially just hold wall (since it doesnt block bullets but does block stuff like skye dog, raze boombot, possible fade ghost etc, stuff ur team can use to deny enemy space)

Nothing else really to say, like yeah, that's better. If my team were already on site that is a much better play, but if I recall the situation that didn't happen because it's hypothetical, I think I was coming heaven and didn't know if site was safe, now yeah, I could've entered site, seen it was safe and then thrown that barrier, or I could've entered site, died to a guy in between the site walls, and done nothing. As I was throwing that what I was thinking is that it cuts the map into 2, there's the site, and there's outside the site next to stairs and B link. We had heaven, and people hate retaking through tree doors, so if we got site then, we'd have it. But yeah, the wall is see-through, so all it stops is movement, not bullets. On default plant it wouldn't be the worst, but them planting for B link made it a bad wall.
I do have a habit of throwing the barrier mesh down quickly, in response to something, rather than saving it for what could be a better time. A lot of the time the response is "oh they're running at this site fast" so I mesh, and that's obviously the right play. But for stuff like retakes, I do need to think about it more. Stopping rushes and defending post-plants is pretty obvious. Retakes, yeah, I will try to play more thoughtful in the future.

When I plant the spike deep, it is because I have spent literally hundreds of hours at this shit fucking elo, and let me tell you what happens when you "plant default" braindead retards will fall back to main, practically give the enemy the site, then get smoked or sage walled off, and be forced to retake the site in 7 seconds or lose the round. If I plant in a position that cannot be held from "main", even these players understand they cannot hold from main. I've been flamed for it before, but I believe actually holding the SITE is more effective than holding the SPIKE. If the enemy gets onto the site, it's basically over anyway. Sites are designed to have chokepoints, they're designed to be defended. Defending a spike from main is retarded.
If your team is on site, you're not going to be smoked off, you're all going to be together, and have multiple people watching each entry angle for easy trades. When you have 2 people fall back to main, they're watching ONE angle, and as soon as the enemy team takes site control and sees the spike planted default, they know where they are, and information matters in the game. Default plants are for line-up larrys.

I had a game where the enemy planted under heaven (right under the window) and I was in a 1v1 vs the enemy reyna who was heaven. had they planted in a real spot then she probably couldve shot at me from heaven and I would have to take a fair fight but since it was directly under the window, I could literally just sit in hell and get like 80% of a defuse off before she was forced to jump down (no accuracy whilst falling and straight after landing) and I could shoot her feet when she was standing on the window ledge
sure you can argue "dont go heaven, hold site" but standing in the wide open is leagues easier to clear than someone who is holding an angle from behind cover

default is safe given that your team just came from short and long and you cannot (theoretically can but in practice not) be shot from heaven, likely wont be shot from backsite or hell unless youre the entry fragger and then you shouldnt be rushing the plant anyways

I don't believe it is the only reason I win on Haven, but clearly there must be something correct in what I'm doing generally on Haven. Multiple different things. Not just a plant spot on A. But a 66% winrate in over 20 games when I am the only constant must mean that I am doing something right on Haven. I feel like I have lost the site less with how I'm playing and planting for A. I know what I used to do and I think this works better. Given that I am the only person that has been in all my games, I think that has to count for something.

Most of the time I meet or speak with europeans their english is very good, but whenever I meet or speak with ESLs from former british colonies like India, their english is generally very bad, when you'd expect it'd to be pretty good given their country had centuries of british rule. I'm sure the simple answer is that countries like Germany have better public education than India, but that's too simple for me. Maybe the real answer is because the german accent is closer to an english accent so their accent plays less of a role?

sure there might be a correlation but that doesnt mean that theyre related, theres likely a hidden third extraneous variable somwhere there (like the desire to be perceived as a native growing as you gain proficiency and that being what causes the increase in changing your accent)
what the post I was replying to was saying was that just because the german accent is closer to an english one, that means that it makes them better at speaking english. unless you define "good at english" as how well you can understand someone then it doesnt really matter since your accent is just how you say words, your pronounciation and stuff. stuff like dialects are moreso related to the actual "language" part since that also occasionally augments grammar rules, completely changes words and stuff
you can also consider stuff like how certain populations (not from the country in which the language is spoken, so germans speaking english for example) can make up their own creole like a german-english hybrid but thats again not an accent
take tagalog for example, like every third word they say is in english but thats not an accent. if anything it would be a dialect but its so different (and not spoken by a native population in said country) that its just another language
end all be all, accents can affect legibility but they dont really affect general language proficiency unless youre only measuring speaking which then loops around to proficiency at a language to being defined as "how legible they are"

Having a bad accent is definitely related to how well you're mastering the language, there's a fine line you're threading whenever you're thinking about it really, there's plenty of accents that can be perfectly well understood after just a little familiarity but you do not want to be having a bad enough one as to have another person do lots of work to be able to understand you.
There's of course also how you are perceived because of your accent, this is for example mostly why I did most of my work on my accent. I do not want to be immediately compared to people that are just straight up bad at the language and no matter how much you might deny it, there's an immediate reaction to hearing someone have a heavy accent and it's most of the time not a positive one.
In general I would definitely define speaking proficiency for the second language as "how well you can be understood", at least for the traditional use of the language.

Sure, its more likely that someone that knows english at such a level is going to be more eligible than someone who speaks a poor level of english (correlation) but you cannot say that theres a correlation between someone having a good accent and someone being good at english, it doesnt go both ways (which is the "germans speak better english cus of their accent?" question from the beginning)
The proficiency of a language, the level at which you understand and can wield it, is likely incredibly tangentially related to your accent, to such a point where you might as well discard the hypothesis. That is, like ive said, unless you only consider the spoken proficiency, in which youre only measuring how legible someones speech is and at that point, sure, there is an incredibly strong correlation between your proficiency and your accent
